It's just about that time again - Hurricane Season. Roughly speaking, the Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from June through November, but this is not a hard and fast rule. In fact, we're already seeing some tropical activity here at the end of May with subtropical storm Alberto. You can't predict nature or set rules for it. That said, we can get a general idea of what's ahead based on observation, science, and history. What's 2018 looking like? Well, scientists are predicting an average to above-average hurricane season. That would mean 10-16 named storms, with 5-9 hurricanes, and 1-4 "Major" (i.e. Category 3 or higher) hurricanes. No matter the number of storms, one fact remains, however. It only takes one to wreak total destruction on an area. Just look to Hurricane Andrew in 1992. When tropical storms of any degree hit, from a depression to a full-on hurricane, they can bring adverse or highly unsafe weather conditions, downed power lines (and power blackouts), along with all the other damage from the force of the storm. It's scary to think about, but it makes it all the more imperative to protect your home and your loved ones in the case of disaster. To that end, it's a good idea to get together your emergency kit, know where it is, and make sure you have access to it when disaster strikes. What should you include in your kit? Ready.gov recommends the following:
Water -one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation
They may seem mundane, but these items can mean a lot if the power goes out and the storm is wailing outside your window. Just think of the comfort a hot, homestyle meal would be! We can help with that. Our meals are pre-cooked, shelf-stable, self-heating, and ready-to-eat whenever you are. Anytime, Anywhere - No Power, No Problem. Don't want to take our word for it?
